2010 DORDT OPEN STAD

The Battle for Dordrecht, May 1940


During the German invasion of the Netherlands, on the 10th of May 1940, German paratroopers tried to secure the bridges at Moerdijk and Zwijdrecht. With these bridges secured, the German troops could safely advance from Brabant to Rotterdam and the Hague, the heart of the Netherlands. Dutch forces tried to prevent the German advance at Dordrecht. During these hostilities approximately 300 soldiers (of which 100 German) and 60 civilians died. This makes Dordrecht one of the bloodiest battle grounds of the Dutch campaign. 

This films shows a reconstruction of some of the most crucial military actions during the battle for Dordrecht. 

2010 Knights in tournament

To support the Medieval exhibition “Knights in Tournament” Phalera has produced six short films about different aspects of daily life of a noble family in the 15th century. The films show subjects like preparing a banquet, table manners, dancing, knighthood and of course knights in tournaments. The exhibition runs until February 2011.

2010 Commercial Roman festival nijmegen

The Roman Festival Foundation (Stichting Romeinenfestival) organizes cultural events promoting Roman history and culture. Roman re-enactment groups demonstrate different aspects of Roman life, both military and civilian. PHALERA Filmworks supports this foundation by producing a TV commercial to promote the festival. The Festival takes place on June 18th – 20th , 2010 in Nijmegen, Netherlands.

2009 Promotional film Bilingual Education

The Stedelijk College Eindhoven is the biggest secondary school in the Netherlands that offers bilingual education for Dutch students. Here students are taught a number of subjects in the English language. 

2009 Weapons and equipment of a roman soldier

Placidus is a Roman legionary soldier stationed in the fortress at Noviomagus along the Limes border (present day Netherlands)
In this 10 minutes film, developed especially for use in classroom situations or museum exhibitions, Placidus shows you his armor, equipment, clothing and personal belongings.

2009 Filmscala

Filmscala is a filmmaking course developed especially for students in secondary schools. During workshops students learn about all different aspects of moviemaking, resulting in the production of a short film.
PHALERA Filmworks is closely involved in the development and implementation of these workshops. 

2008 Roman legionaires build fortress wall

What techniques and tools did Roman soldiers use to build their fortresses all around their empire? This short film shows how Legionaries build a fortress ditch and wall. This film was developed especially for use in classroom situations or museum exhibitions. An English version of this film can be found atPhalera's Youtube Channel.
